Black Sea Nettle pulsating in Kelp Forest_03

Black Sea Nettles are occasionally seen in the waters off the coast of Baja California and Southern California. These large jellyfish are rarely observed in the wild, preferring calm deep water. Adults are huge, a deep dark purple or black, and very rare. They are planktonic creatures flowing with the currents, and are eaten by mola mola and sea turtles.
