Destructive and illegal fishing practices kill around 100 million sharks every year for their fins, responsible for a 70% decline in shark populations globally over the past 50 years. International trade even goes beyond their fins, the shark meat trade has rapidly expanded and contributed to a market for shark cartilage and oil used in cosmetics and health supplements.
